The main benefit of cloud computing is being able to access computing resources over the internet. This benefit becomes especially valuable in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a time where we need to maximize the distance between people more than ever, it becomes imperative that we do whatever we can, utilizing the resources at our disposal to keep our workplaces efficient and running smoothly. Naturally, this has caused businesses, with employee safety in mind, to transition to a remote-work based culture. While there was some skepticism in the transition to remote-work last year, the shift has caused a resurgence in the common thinking of whether we really need to be working in the stereotypical offices at the designated 9-5 time.

Increased Productivity

One of the main concerns in moving to remote work was the idea that not being in a regulated area with coworkers would lead to decreased productivity. Studies have shown, however, that this fear is unfounded. Many people have reported that the ability to work from home in a more comfortable environment has led employees to become less stressed while on shift, which in turn leads to a clearer and more focused mind for the workplace. Those that rely on being in the presence of fellow coworkers to stay productive can also utilize group-chat apps, such as Zoom or Google Hangouts.

Decreased Maintenance Costs

Most companies utilize some sort of office building as a base of operations. As that building gets used over time, it often requires routine maintenance in the form of cleaning and safety inspections as well as utilities (water, gas, lighting). With remote work, however, we do away with the need for a headquarters where employees need to meet up every day. Because employees are working from their own homes, this eliminates the need for an office building, which saves no small amount of money in that you can disregard needing an office space at all, thus also discarding the expenses associated with maintaining such a space.

Stronger Work-Life Balance

Working from home allows you more time to spend with your loved ones. Of course, you won't have time for a family cookout or anything during work hours, but oftentimes just being able to say "hi" to some of your family members or loved ones during a shift is great.

Decreased Carbon Emissions

Many people commute to their workplace; If remote-work were to become the norm, we would be eliminating tons of greenhouse gas emissions compared to previous years, paving the way for a more sustainable planet and brighter future for later generations.

Summary

A remote-work culture offers numerous benefits for both employees, employers, and the environment. With cloud computing platforms like Shells.com, we can work together towards building a better and more sustainable future.
