To make Windows 10 faster is not a tough job. You can do that by simply following some tips and hacks.

For optimizing Windows 10’s performance, there are three umbrella categories to focus on.

And these are 1) OS tweaks, 2) App replacements or removal, and 3) Software enhancements.

So, let’s begin with today’s article that takes you through 8 different ways explaining how to make Windows 10 faster.

Run a Disk Cleanup

To make your Windows 10 faster run a disk cleanup.

This will free up the hard disk space and improve the performance of the PC.

Clearing out all the installers, temporary files, junk files allows your PC to run faster.

For running disk cleanup, search for Disk Cleanup and press “Clean Up System Files”.

Disable Startup Processes

If your Windows 10 PC is taking longer than usual to boot up, you might have running too many processes while your PC is starting up.

So, you need to disable some of the startup programs to make the Windows 10 OS faster.

To do this, right-click on the Start and then press Task Manager.

Now, open the Startup tab to go through all the programs that start running with your PC boot up.

Note: Open “More details” in case you can’t find the Startup tab.

If you find any not required program, simply right-click and hit Disable.

You can use the “Startup impact” to check the programs you want to cut out from the startup.

Add More RAM

To make Windows 10 faster and more efficient try this hack – add more RAM memory.

Though Windows 10 is pretty smart while it comes to memory management, more amount of memory is always recommended to boost up your PC speed.

To know the best RAM for your desktop, visit the RAM giants’ websites, such as Crucial, Corsair, and Kingston

You can also try ReadyBoost with a USB as a cheaper means.

The ReadyBoost is a disk caching feature added by Microsoft to Windows 10. This caches data into the storage of the portable device and speeds up memory access.

However, ReadyBoost’s performance depends on the system.

Speed Up the Processor

Windows OS offers three, and sometimes more, in-built settings defining how your processor boosts its frequency. The three settings are High Performance, Power Saver, and Balanced.

You can definitely better off using Balanced or Power saver mode.

But High performance makes your Windows faster while depending entirely on the battery performance. And it can be run on desktops too.

To change your power settings, just go to Power Options in Control Panel.

Install an SSD

If you’re running higher memory-consuming apps like Adobe Photoshop, you must install an SSD in your device to make the Windows OS faster.

Windows Store Apps can readily be moved to the SSD through Settings’ Apps and Features.

Replace your internal startup hard drive to speed up the system.

Though an external SSD having a USB 3.0 gives a speed boost to the apps that require a lot of storage.

Shut Off Visual Enhancements

You can make your Windows faster by shutting off all visual enhancements.

To turn off:

  • Navigate to “System” and then “Advanced System Settings”.
  • Select the “Advanced” option.
  • Under “Performance”, select “Settings”.
  • Then select the radio button beside the “Adjust for Best Performance” option.

You can make your old Windows machines faster by applying this trick. Though things might not look nice, so, you can enable “Smooth Edges of Screen Fonts” to read texts clearly.

Scan for Malware

For making Windows OS faster, the primary step suggested by the computer technicians is a malware scan.

Usually, the viruses occupy a lot of system resources making the device impossible to use.

If you suspect malware in your computer,

  • Open up “Start”
  • Search “Windows Security”
  • Click on the top-most result
  • Then click the “Virus & Threat Protection”
  • Go to the “Virus & Threat Protection Updates”
  • Click on the “Check for Updates”
  • Under the “Current Threats”, click on “Scan Options”
  • Then choose the “Full Scan”
  • Finally, hit the “Scan Now” button.

Once the whole process is completed, Microsoft Defender Antivirus detects and removes performance affecting malware from your computer.

Uninstall Non-Essential Applications

When you bought your device, it came with a bundle of applications. Most of the time, these apps don’t serve any purpose.

Apps like system tools and the usual bloatware will only waste your hard disk space and resources. In order to make your Windows 10 OS faster, you need to uninstall such space-consuming non-essential apps from your device.

To uninstall,

  • Open up the “Settings”
  • Click on the “Apps”
  • Then select the Apps & Features
  • Choose the non-essential app from the apps list
  • Hit the “Uninstall” button
  • Again click on the Uninstall and follow the instructions given on the screen

Summary

Above are some handy and very useful tricks to boost your OS performance. So, apply them on your device and get your work done faster.
